Astronauts aboard the Boeing/Bigelow CST-100 Starliner spacecraft will be sporting these snazzy, Benny-approved spacesuits recently unveiled by Boeing.
The suits are reportedly 40% lighter than previous suits and provide greater pressurized mobility. They also employ “innovative layers” that will help keep astronauts cooler as well as touchscreen-friendly gloves that allow crews to interact with the capsule’s tablet computers.
Beyond this, the suits utilize breathable, slip-resistant boots, torso zippers that allow astronauts to easily transition from sitting to standing positions and a hood-like soft helmet with a built-in communications headset and a wide polycarbonate visor for better peripheral vision.
The Starliner, launched on Atlas V rockets, will be used to shuttle crews to and from the International Space Station and other low-Earth orbit locations.
