Striped ties are for people who don’t have the knowledge to describe what something like the Silk Nuclear Physics Tie depicts. You can get away with it if you are in a room full of female fashion majors, but I would stay away from a meeting of Nuclear Physicists. They may expect you to actually understand what you are wearing.
