Play 18th Century Hairdresser With This New Interactive Design Tool

Put this on the list of things we didn’t know we needed: an interactive website that lets you design 18th Century style wigs.

Compliments of the The Victoria and Albert Museum, famous for its decorative arts collection, you can get sucked into a world of zany wigs, embellishments and colored powdering. It even treats you to fun tidbits about how the styles were originally created such as:

To make these towering creations, hair was built up with padding and hair pieces. These could be made from human or horse hair.

Gooey pastes made from pig fat kept everything in place.

The website is extremely easy to use and only takes a few short steps:

Step 1: Brush out your wig in whatever crazy pattern you please.

Step 2: Adorn it with as many embellishments as you’d like.

Step 3: Add colored powder to taste.

Et voila!

Now go forth and design my pretties! Design!
