The second installment of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy, The Desolation of Smaug, arrives in theaters on December 13th and features some characters not seen in the original book. One of those characters is Tauriel who will be played by a very red-headed Evangeline Lilly as shown in this picture. Lilly describes this new character as a more lowly elf than those we’ve seen in previous films
“Tauriel is the head of the Elven Guard. She’s a Sylvan Elf, which means she’s of a much lower order than the elves we all became acquainted with in The Lord of the Rings. She doesn’t hold the same kind of status that Arwen or Galadriel or Elrond or Legolas do — she’s much more lowly. She sort of goes against the social order of the elves a little bit.”
She may be more lowly but she still looks like she could skewer a few Orcs without even trying.
