To be honest, I didn’t even realize that cosplay massage was an actual thing until I read an article from a licensed massage therapist and avid cosplayer named Amber. In her opinion, it’s inclusion at Wizard World shows crosses the line. She writes:
These conventions are billed as “family friendly†with advertisements to “bring the kids†and “meet the stars.†Then you have sexy girls wearing skimpy outfits getting paid to provide a physical service. Huh? What is WIZARD ENTERTAINMENT thinking? I’ve heard many complaints about the skimpy costumes simply being worn around the con because of the presence of children; most of the complaints are by women.
The image above shows massage therapists from a Wizard World event.
It’s an interesting question. Is it okay to wear skimpy costumes at supposedly “family friendly” conventions, but not okay to perform massage services? Are they both out of line? Is Wizard being misleading? Let us know your take in the comments.
