Macetech has developed an interesting set of LED glasses that look like something people in 1983 would expect people of 2012 to be wearing. Although the glasses have been featured in a Lytro gallery, a recent Reddit post seems to provide the only details:

The shades are a 20×6 matrix (with some pixel missing of course) driven by SPI from an integrated Arduino-compatible in the right temple. There is a Lithium-Polymer battery on the left temple. You can charge the glasses through USB, and download new code to it over the same connection. A button on the right temple allows switching between modes or auto cycling animated patterns.

Currently, there’s no word on whether the specs will eventually be sold at all, let alone as a finished product or kit.

Under the category of the so bizarre I don’t know what to make of it, I give you a video featuring Brent Spiner cosplaying as Spock. Take a moment to process that sentence.

The actor who played Data in Star Trek: The Next Generation donned the Vulcan ears for his sort of autobiographical web series Fresh Hell. He puts on the Spock costume for a kid’s birthday party, but he has ulterior motives. He wants to get close to casting director. Whatever the reason, I like seeing Data in the blue uniform performing the Vulcan nerve pinch.

Last week we saw the city of Seattle threatened by one Rex Velvet. He swore he’d had enough of would-be superhero Phoenix Jones and promised to rid the city of this heroic nuisance. Apparently, he didn’t receive an appropriate response from Jones so he has issued a second challenge, and this time he’s coming for Phoenix in a DeLorean. So, Seattle has an evil villain who wears a bowler, eye-patch and a snazzy mustache while driving a DeLorean. I’m moving there to be his minion.

In a recent episode of her show The Flog, Felicia Day participated in a steampunk photo shoot for Clockwork Couture. She models a few outfits for them, but my favorite is the neo-Victorian version of Codex from The Guild pictured above. Steampunk definitely suits Felicia Day. Then again, what doesn’t?

If you’re looking for the perfect Batman to entertain at a kid’s birthday party, Adam West is probably the way to go. As this family learned, Christopher Nolan’s version is too depressed and dramatic – plus he’s unwilling to wear the high quality Batsuit.

I’ve been busy with games involving Reapers and Jedi but this makes me want to go back and revisit Skyrim. Violinist Lindsey Stirling, known for her Legend of Zelda and Lord of the Rings violin videos, has turned her creative energies to Skyrim. It’s a beautifully shot video with inspiring music and there’s a duel between a sword and a violin bow. No, I’m not making that up.

I’ve spent more than my fair share of time creating costumes for my kids. It always seems like a great idea. I was a Girl Scout. I have a sewing badge so surely I can make costumes at least as cool as the ones in stores, right? Yeah, it never happens like that and, after watching this ad for Avengers costumes now available at Target, I’m retiring my sewing badge for good. I’m a little jealous of Thor, though. Check out those long luscious locks of his. I want that hair.

After returning home from Afghanistan, a military dad decided to surprise his sons by showing up at his house dressed as Captain America. After a bit of fun, the mask came off to reveal his true identity. It’s a tearjerker for sure.
