Timbuk2 is preparing to launch their new Especial collection of bags aimed at serious cyclists. The collection includes three packs, the Dos, Tres and Cuatro – and one pannier – the Viaje. In order to test them on the road, the company enlisted the help of CS Couriers in Columbus, OH, who provided the following feedback:
-Huge inside area of the bag that has no pockets, just empty space – Not having the inside cluttered with pockets makes it easy to load the bag with very large objects.
-Rigid back panel – When we were carrying huge loads they didnt hurt our back or dig into our spine. Plus the rigid back and the padding system actually improve air flow to your back so it doesn’t get as sweaty.
-Straps mounted on top of the bag – Allows for comfort on different sized shoulders. The bag sits high off the shoulders; it doesn’t slouch down off the shoulders or sag over the butt.
The collection will launch on timbuk2.com on February 1, 2012. Check out some additional photos after the break.

We’re a big fan of Timbuk2 bags here at Fashionably Geek, and this special edition American flag version made for Nancy Pelosi is pretty freakin’ sweet. Plus, it was actually made in the US at Timbuk2′s San Francisco factory.
I suspect Timbuk2 would sell the living crap out of these bags if they mass produced them but, sadly, this version is only one of two that were produced.

I have a Timbuk2 bag myself and I can say with confidence that they make some of the best messenger bags and backpacks out there. The problem is that those bags can be freakin’ expensive—unless you take advantage of their one day sale that is.
Timbuk2 has started a program that discounts a new bag every day by up to 60%. Today’s bag happens to be a Grubstake backpack that you can take home for only $30 (down from $70). If that bag isn’t your thing, be patient. The design you really want will probably turn up in the sale sooner or later.

If you’re going somewhere and aren’t sure if a bag will be necessary at some point, you may want to bring along one of these Timbuk2 hidden messenger bags. When not in use, the Timbuk2 will conveniently fold into a small pouch that will give you some additional pocket bulge and keep your hands and shoulders free.
