the hunger games

the huntress

The Fashion in the Capitol has always played a part in the Hunger Games series and the team behind the marketing for the movies has been hard at work in the run up to Mockingjay Part 2.

Part of their social media campaign has included a Capitol Couture collection and a site to showcase it. The final issue is out, and this gem by Susanne Bartsch and photographer Steven Klein is a spiky stunner. She’s described thusly:

The huntress. A strong and savage leader who isn’t afraid to take down her adversaries. Inspired by “defense mechanisms in nature,” her outerwear is a blend of trophies collected in the wild and found materials that function as protective armor. She is adorned in a crown of fabulous porcupine quills complemented by a whimsical leopard capelet. And yes, her armor is comprised of—elastic cords and zip ties! (I’m sure few of you are wondering what these are, to be honest, we hadn’t even seen these until the arrival of our emergency kits.) Take a moment to stand in awe of this wild beauty, she is a testament to the power within us all.

leggings - westeros

Do you have room in your wardrobe for more geek-themed leggings? I hope so because it doesn’t seem like companies are going to stop pumping out designs any time soon. One of the newest ones to come to our attention is Poprageous. Their collection features tights with artsy patterns as well as pop culture prints. Oh yes, get your wishlist ready. You can get a map of Westeros on your legs (pictured above), exploding TARDISes, Mockingjays, Pac-Man, and even the wallpaper from the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. I’m especially tempted by that last style!

The product descriptions don’t list the material, but given the price point, I’m guessing the blend is mostly spandex.

Check out more examples of their leggings after the break.

I’ve already mentioned my love for geeky jewelry that’s also subtle and stylish, so it’s probably not a surprise that I like this Hunger Games: Catching Fire Mockingjay Charm Ring from ThinkGeek.

It’s got three antique Brass-tone joined bands with 3 charms; a District 12 seal, a mockingjay, and a fiery-red stone charm.

The ring only comes in size 7.5, but I think this would also look pretty cool on a necklace or turned into a brooch.

mockingjay silk dress

If you have a penchant for high fashion, deep pockets and you’re a fan of The Hunger Games, you can now wear clothing created by Catching Fire’s costume designer Trish Summerville.

Summerville has unveiled her Capitol Couture collection for NET-A-PORTER, which fuses the film’s themes into both clothing and accessories.

Personally, I’d have a hard time paying approximately $120 for a t-shirt that says “Girl On Fire”, but I think the silver cuff and the Twill jumpsuit are gorgeous.

You can see more samples from the collection after the break.

In between Miley Cyrus doing whatever it was that she was doing and N’Sync staging a little reunion, there were some interesting commercials like this one from Cover Girl. It features their new Capitol Collection line inspired by the film The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Only a few looks were showcased but it looks like we’ll get 12 altogether so that each district is represented.

katniss the girl on fire

Fire is catching, and this art nouveau Katniss Everdeen design is smoking hot. As always, artist Megan Lara has created a captivating piece of wearable art full of symbols from The Hunger Games. For pity’s sake, she even included Prim’s cat Buttercup.

Hunger Games Lips

We’ve seen a lot of fantastic nail art and eye makeup, but geeky designs on lips are out of the ordinary. Makeup artist and photographer Eva Senin Pernas has created magic on a very small canvas. She’s painted lips with motifs from The Hunger Games, Mulan, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and more. I’d be afraid to even breathe with my lips painted this beautifully!

Check out more spectacular designs after the break.

Last week we brought you the Hunger Games Arena Jacket replica, and now Tributes can prepare for the games wearing an official training shirt.

The training shirts for the 74th Hunger Games were made to accommodate physical activity and to show up well when being broadcast across Panem. And, really, we all know the second one was the more important of those two to the Gamemakers. But, honestly, these feel good on. They have some lovely seaming details that tailor them flatteringly to many different body types. The fabric mix (90% Polyester / 10% Spandex) makes them stretch and give just the right amount. The contrasting crimson and grey detail on the raglan sleeves and then again down the back is really to draw attention to the square so the citizens can more easily tell which district you’re from, but you know what? It’s a nice touch.
