Neil Gaiman has collaborated with Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab for a decade now, but the time was definitely right to refresh their American Gods-themed fragrance lineup. New scents and beauty products based on characters and story points from the book have been added, along with a bottle design refresh by Hugo-winner Julie Dillon. [click to continue…]

This Halloween, go way off the beaten path with the latest round of scented oils from Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab. In addition to more traditional scents like autumn and pumpkin, there are some truly exotic and slightly creepy oils to try. How about “Graveyard Dirt Redux” or “Feeding the Dead”? If those don’t sound fantastically creepy enough, there’s also “Devil’s Night” and “Suck It” which are sure to please.

only lovers left alive

I’ve blogged before about my love for Tilda Swinton, Tom Hiddleston, and Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab* — so you know I have to jump up and down and make all sorts of happy noises about the fact that BPAL just released an entire perfume oil line based on Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive.

From lead character scents like Adam and Eve to story notes like Blood Popsicle and scents based on the soundtrack, BPAL covered all aspects of the film. I personally can’t wait to check out Café Mille et une Nuits, which is described as “Shisha and thick coffee brewed with cardamom pods, cinnamon, clove, black pepper, and nutmeg”. Of course, I’m not sure if I want to wear it or drink it!

The scents are $30.00 per 5ml bottle and only 350 bottles were created for each scent.

Take a few minutes and check out the full line. It’s a sensory experience, to say the least.

The folks at Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab continue to introduce new and tantalizing scented oils, this time with a line of seven scents based on Kelly Sue DeConnick’s Pretty Deadly comic series. Each comes in a 5 ml bottle with scents based on characters including Alice, Molly, Beauty, Sissy, Sarah, Lily, and Ginny. The scents embody the characters with descriptions like “Sassafras and smoke for black vulture feathers, and King mandarin and red musk for the deep red-orange of the vulture’s face.” which envisions Sissy.

Check out all of the scents in the product page below.

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab has a constantly changing variety of perfumed oils based on your favorite characters and the places they call home and I was fortunate to sample some of their newest offerings.

This was the first time I’ve experienced these incredible oils and, now that I’ve tried them, it is very possible that I’ll be stalking the Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab site to keep up to date on their latest creations. I received over 30 vials of perfumed oil along with two products from their sister site, Black Phoenix Trading Post, which specializes in things like jewelry, clothing, bath and body, and room sprays.

If you’ve read Fashionably Geek over the years you know that we are big fans of Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab and the Black Phoenix Trading Post. That having been said, I’m pretty sure this recent update may be one of my favorites.

Why? The Hallowenches.

The Hallowenches are: Callidora (The Vamp), Lavina (The Creature), and Sylvia (The She-Wolf). Each Hallowench has her own perfume, hair gloss and bath oil with their own signature look and feel.

My personal faves are Silkybat Hair Gloss which is a sensual sugared patchouli, and the Recharging Station Bath Oil (eucalyptus petals, white mint, pink lime, and rosemary).

Plus, I think they’re just adorable. Artist Aidan Casserly did an incredible job. Monster art meets pin up art is really an awesome kind of mix.

Earlier today we posted about BPALs upcoming Dark Crystal scents, but it turns out they also took some great cosplay pics from DragonCon and posted them on their Facebook page. See a few of our favorites after the break.

dark crystal scents

BPAL posted this image debuting 4 new scents from their upcoming scent line for The Dark Crystal and, wouldn’t you know it, they were Skeksis.

What do Skeksis smell like? Well, according to BPAL’s Facebook Page, they smell like:

  • skekZok the Ritual-Master
An incense of deception: frankincense, opoponax, hyssop, champaca, and opium poppy accord.
  • skekUng the Garthim-Master
Brute force and destruction: vetiver, smoke, steel, and dragon’s blood resin.
  • skekTek the Scientist
Metal and stone beams of dark light: hyssop, black currant, black viola, passionflower, and myrrh.
  • skekNa the Slave-Master
The essence of vile gluttony: an abundance of spices, sweet cakes, thick creams, and opulent liqueurs mixed with the scent of whip leather and rusted padlocks.
  • *skekSi jazz hands!*

I had to leave in the jazz hands comment. Because the idea of Skeksis doing jazz hands made me laugh which is good because normally they scare the everlivingbejiminy out of me.

You may have noticed I said a line of scents from The Dark Crystal and, we’re able to confirm that there will be much more to come. We don’t have details, but BPAL’s never let us down. Because these oils, like so many of the BPAL scents, are officially licensed and crafted in partnership with the creators, we’re pretty sure they’ll smell just like what The Jim Henson Company envisioned.

I want to know what Fizzgig smells like! Hopefully not wet dog. I’m allergic.

tardis bpal box

This is a TARDIS made by Milling In Line and, aside from just being a TARDIS, it’s also a storage case.

Their boxes are designed to hold Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab oils and, while I’m a huge fan of BPAL, I’m also pretty sure I could find lots of things I could tuck away.

One of the things about Milling In Line’s work is the intricacy of the design and the way it’s built for maximum storage and organization. See inside the box after the break.
