I have seen Frankenstein do plenty of things to scare people. The picture that this case portrays is probably more along the lines of how he would really like to express himself to those people who form mobs and chase him with torches. While this display of his may be a bit obnoxious, it would probably get him more respect than his attempts at pleasing others.
