“Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”
Chances are good that most of you reading this post instantly recognize Inigo Montoya’s mantra from The Princess Bride. It’s one of those lines from one of those movies that stands the test of time and bridges generations. However, passengers on a Qantas flight from Australia to New Zealand were not amused by seeing the phrase on a t-shirt worn by Wynand Mullins.
Apparently, the phrasing spooked them. An unspecified number of passengers complained to a flight attendant who then had to confront Mullins. He said:
“The flight attendant said to me: ‘Are you able to remove it because some of the passengers are quite intimidated by it’. I thought it was all a bit silly. The person next to me was laughing, because they knew the movie.”
The attendant tried to find another shirt for Mullins to wear but didn’t have any luck. I can only assume Mullins stayed in his seat most of the time and perhaps tried to awkwardly cover the t-shirt when he moved about the cabin.
Even if you don’t know the source of the quote at first, it seems extreme to react this way to a piece of clothing. And frankly, I’m concerned that so many people don’t seem to have seen The Princess Bride.
