If you’re a medievalist looking for a costume idea (and who isn’t, really), Amanda King has the ultimate outfit for you: become the Book of Kells. The illuminated manuscript is in Latin and contains the four Gospels of the New Testament. It dates back to 800 AD as far as scholars can tell, and it’s available to view online thanks to Trinity College.
Amanda used that resource to piece together screenshots in order to make temporary tattoos. She wanted to be respectful and only included certain imagery from the text. Besides the tattoos, she edged her beige skirt in a Book of Kells font and braided gold and burgandy flowers into her hair. She became the personification of the Book of Kells, and it’s unique and beautiful.
