Los Angeles is practically brimming over with people who own costumes. Several people earn money by impersonating celebrities or dressing up like superheroes and posing for photos in popular tourist areas. Local photographer Nicholas Silberfaden wanted to capture their images but not in the usual way: he wanted to see the sad side.
He wanted to represent the current economic and cultural crises in America. There is definitely plenty to worry and stress about, and he asked his subjects to dig that up and show their emotions. Everyone from Superman to Batgirl to Indiana Jones to Marilyn Monroe. The results are… unexpected and interesting.
