Thanks to a vigilante Justice League of costumed supernerds, one shoplifter that took Free Comic Book Day festivities a little too seriously last week will get his just deserts.

Michael Baulderstone, the 45-year-old owner of the Adelaide Comic Centre in Adelaide, Australia noticed a man acting suspiciously in his store. No doubt emboldened by the Spider-Man costume he was wearing, Baulderstone confronted the individual and managed to prevent him from stealing a copy of X-Men Omnibus (valued at around $150 US) with help from other superheroes that were wandering through the store at the time.

“We had about 40 people dressed up as their favourite superheroes to celebrate International Free Comic Day, so he didn’t have much of a choice but to hand the X-Men omnibus back after a little bit of a scuffle,” the shop owner told the Advertiser.

“One of the funniest things about the incident was that I called for people to stand near the door and it just so happened we had people dressed as Jedi knights there blocking the exit, the Flash was there at some point too,” said Baulderstone.

Remember this would-be criminals. By themselves nerds may not be dangerous or intimidating, but you don’t want any part of staring down a herd dressed in full superhero regalia. No, you don’t even want to imagine that horror.
