The first episode of season five of Star Wars: The Clone Wars premiered at Celebration VI, and that means a red carpet. Several voice actors from the series made appearances, and they were not alone. They were accompanied by some serious cosplayers. I want to note that these cosplayers were not hired by Lucasfilm; they’re fans just like you and me. Okay, maybe they’re a lot more talented at crafting armor than most of us.
In the above picture from left to right you’ll see: Sam Witwer (voice of Darth Maul in the series and the vampire in Being Human among other roles), Ashley Eckstein (voice of Ahsoka Tano and founder of Her Universe), Bo-Katan, and a member of the Mandalorian warrior group, the Death Watch.
The story behind the Bo-Katan costume is especially cool. The character – also a member of the Death Watch – was introduced in the fourth season; she is voiced by Katee Sackhoff. Supervising director Dave Filoni has said that one reason he created her was to give the female cosplayers an awesome set of armor they could create and wear. This is the first Bo-Katan cosplayer, and apparently when Filoni first saw her at Celebration VI, he flipped out. He even brought her on stage during The Clone Wars panel to make sure the crowd saw her costume.
And as a side note, Bo-Katan was featured in the trailer for season five. She kicks ass.
