Limited Edition Bikes Drain Your Bank Account, Store Easily

From CubicleBot… It’s definitely a pain in the ass to store a bike in an apartment that’s severely lacking in space to begin with, but how much would you be willing to pay to fix that? Apparently Wallpaper magazine, Japanese company Kinfolk and Portland-based painters Coat are testing the waters by producing a bike that looks good and can be broken down to fit in its own satchel, but has price tag that will make you cry.

Nivaldo de Lima’s bike bag alone will set you back $3,900; then you can choose between two bikes, one with a dark blue 54cm frame which will cost around $3,800, or one with a light blue 58cm frame for around $4,700. The price is justified because every aspect of the bikes are supposed to be top notch, and are offered as a limited edition run of one each. The frames were handcrafted in Osaka by 71-year old master frame builder Shuichi Kusaka of Kinfolk, then shipped to Portland for a paint job by Coat. So the question you have to ask yourself is whether you want a super expensive bike that’s easily stored, or a downpayment for a house?
